I get frustrated with Toronto's "urban" scene sometimes.

The realities of some of Toronto's name brands earning credibility often time exists because someone from the United States had to co-sign them. If nobody talked their name how would we feel about them?

Plus I can go to 3 blogs that say they represent Toronto to the fullest, and all 3 blogs are just mirror representations of Kanye University. No knock on Ye, because I think he is a genuis but if you are going to take something from him then take the "be yourself stop trying to act cool" side of him.

People approached me trying to tell me what MXyMAG.com "should" be. When they talk it's usually based on what some other product is already doing (yesterday).

The reality of MXyMAG is that it's EYECANDY first and then we mix in BUSINESS ENTERTAINMENT. Xy because its the male chromosome. We are the Business Men’s Magazine. NUMBER 1 in a lane that we crafted ourselves. We do not follow and therefore appear defiant in the eyes of those conditioned to follow. We are leaders, that's why we grow in traffic and stickability every month.

Another common misconception is the thought that MXyMAG is a Toronto brand. That's false. We are based out in Toronto and we love pushing the city when we can, but we are pushing our brand to be an international medium.

Why? Because traffic wise the whole of Canada is second only to the United States. It's actually close to tying with The United Kingdom, Japan comes in close as well. We do not advertise anything in those markets. Yet they are close to tying Canada in terms of visitors. (WHERE IS THE LOVE?)

It's a telling story that upsets my feelings but numbers don't lie, numbers are to be respected and that is why we will be pushing for a more comprehensive international outreach strategy and Charlene is a seed in that direction.

She is from East London where they call fries, "chips". In her interview she talks about her first time, calendar project and what she does through trials and tribulations. Have a good read.

How are you doing? I'm great thanks!

To anyone who may not know who you are? I'm a 22 year old model who was born and raised in East London. I think of myself as a go-getter and believe that you can have anything you want in life, as long as you work hard enough for it!! I'm a firm believer that solely relying on something as temporary and superficial as outward beauty to ensure success is neither practical nor realistic, which explains why graduating with honours is one of my most significant accomplishments.

East of London, are you still there? Yes I'm still here, its home to me. East London is such a diverse area - its home to so many characters and cultures that you virtually get the best of every food, music and culture!

I was in London once, a long time ago when I was a child. I'm kind of sad I was too young to remember it. What's a spot I should go to when I return? I would recommend central London (Oxford Circus) as there are a huge selection of attractions, entertainment, shopping, restaurants & bars.

How was your first ever modelling job? My first ever modelling job was a week long photo shoot. I loved the experience and it allowed me to learn a bit about myself too as I was able to test a variety of looks and themes.

I guess that's one way to break ice, what did you do after? After that shoot I’ve taken part in a few catwalks and a fashion shows with top retailers such as River Island, Bay Trading and Topshop. I’ve started to take an interest in working as an extra and have appeared on Dubplate Drama. I’ve been in a few videos for artists such as G Range, Boy Better Know and Lethal B, which has been a lot of fun! I've been lucky enough to work with a huge variety of photographers such as Lee Barker, Kosher (Femelle Studios), Atomicsparkle, Palle Hansen and RTW Magazine. I've also been interviewed at ’beautywithbrains.co.uk’, 'cutiecentral.com/charlene' and 'Urban World'. I'm currently working with New Wave Entertainment as a Splash girl, promoting some of London's hottest parties.

What are some situations you would want to embrace in the future? I would love to work in different countries! Undertaking various projects around the world would allow me to experience different cultures and to see how the modelling industry varies in different cultures.
